Chrysler has finally started importing a few more things from Detroit, namely profits. The smallest of the Big 3 today announced a $212 million profit for their third quarter. This is Chrysler’s second profitable quarter this calendar year. More importantly, if the company can keep up this pace it will be profitable for the fiscal year, which would be the company’s first profitable year since 2005. That’s correct; Chrysler hasn’t turned a yearly profit since 2005.

Obviously Fiat’s ownership and quality improvements have made an impact. Also, the new product lines in the Jeep brand are a retail success. The real question is whether Chrysler can put two profitable years back to back.

The final results from the panel overseeing the closing of 1,600 Chrysler and General Motors dealerships will report their results next week.

Chrysler announces they will make the first two payments (up to $500) for any new Chrysler purchased in July. The automaker is stepping up their incentive programs in order to compensate for a lackluster start to the summer selling season.
